GDC - The Past, The Present and The Future

George Doherty started in the construction industry in the early 1970's and later went on to form GDC Limited (George Doherty Construction Limited). The company's activities for the next 30 years were mainly subcontracting throughout Ireland and the UK as well as the construction of distinctive high quality homes in Northern and Southern Ireland.

Having grown substantially over the years, GDC is now recognized as one of the leading construction companies in the North-West and continues to enjoy a high level of repeat business from a diverse client base. Our impressive track record includes an exceptional portfolio of contracts in Ireland, North and South, which include numerous public and private housing developments.

We are currently involved in prestigious contracts in Derry, Belfast, Donegal, Dublin, London and a few other major towns and cities throughout Ireland and the UK. Our current projects include Droim Ard Avenue and Rann Mor in Letterkenny, Cara Bay and Marquee Square in Culdaff and Cherry Avenue in Carndonagh.

I joined the company in the late 1980s, and was appointed Managing Director in 1994. Since then, I am glad to say, we have sustained a steady growth in all areas of our business but most notable is the huge success of our recent private housing developments in Co. Donegal.

The company's success is mostly due to the pride, professionalism and skills of our staff and workforce. Due to the continued expansion and review of procedures we have identified the necessity and importance of ensuring that all customers and suppliers are dealt with in an efficient and professional manner. Our workforce is innovative, responsive and perceptive in the quality of service provided to our customers and GDC continues to be enterprising and dynamic in its quest to provide consistently high quality service.

As we all know, times have been very challenging recently. Whilst, like most professionals in the construction industry, we have felt the pinch, we have continued to make progress with steady sales figures over the last 18 months.

We believe that in County Donegal, the bottom of the property market has been reached and some signs of an upturn have started to appear. We intend to press ahead in 2009 with several new projects and look forward to an exciting, if challenging, next period in our growth and development as a company.

Hopefully, one day, you will experience one of GDC's developments for yourself.

Daniel Doherty
